Past Meetings

November 23, 2017: “Demo-style” workshop for childcare cooks is about strategies to promote veggies and fruit in childcare programs and will highlight harvest produce grown in Ontario.

September 19, 2017:  Theme 3 of the Healthy Kids Community Challenge: Choose to Boost Veggies and Fruit!  Also –  information on a  NEW provincial resource  for childcare cooks.

April 25, 2017: There was discussion about the annual conference in June in collaboration with Healthy Kids Community Challenge.  There was also some discussion of children cooking within programs.

November 29, 2016: A discussion following up on using pulses from the spring conference.

Tuesday, May 3: Participants brought along one full day’s worth of their menus (with recipes if possible) and shared their successes. There was also discussion on meeting CCEYA  requirements.

Tuesday, March 8, 2016:  We discussed recipes from ‘Cook!’ and which ones had been successful. We also had some samples of a peach parfait for Nutrition Month. One person spoke about trying out a new recipe at a staff meeting.

Tuesday, December 1:  12 dietary staff  met to talk about some of the changes which may come with the new legislation – Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA).   Also, copies of the dietitians of Canada cookbook – Cook!  – were handed out. There is a copy in the resource lending library for anyone who would like to borrow it.

Tuesday, October 6: We discussed the follow-up from the June Cooks’ Conference and herb planters along with watching a short video. 3 new people were welcomed and we look into having a book study later this year.

Tuesday, February 17:  An overview of the new document ‘How Does Learning Happen?’ was presented. There was information about the 4 foundations of Belonging, Well-Being, Expression and Engagement and also the emphasis on all those involved in early learning – children, families and educators, which includes dietary staff.

Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at  Brock St. Freshco:   This network was a grocery store tour guided by Erica Diamond RD., adapted for the dietary staff.

Tuesday, February 18, 2014:  The group discussed ideas for afternoon snacks. There was feedback about successful baking recipes from the ‘Bake It Up’ booklet from the previous meeting. Bake it Up

Tuesday, December 3 , 2013 at the Investing in Quality (IIQ) office:   A small group met to discuss healthy baking and to taste some samples that people brought. Erica Diamond, dietitian with the Health Unit, also brought copies of the booklet ‘Bake It Up!’ which has ‘tasty treats for healthier school bake sales’.
